The wars that are taking place and involving US soldiers has been at the forefront of the political scene for a long time. Recently, the economy has become the center of attention. Neither, however, is as important to people in the US as online gambling.

That is according to an opinion survey that was released by the White House this week. The survey had over 125,000 people, and over 1.4 million votes were received ranking issues in terms of importance.

Online poker came up number one as the most pressing technology issue in the US. That is a testament to how many people are infuriated over the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.

"Poker players around the country are speaking with one voice to protect the game they love, and the White House is hearing that message," said John Pappas, Executive Director of the Poker Players Alliance, this, "proves that this is not a niche issue, but a national public policy that this Congress and this president should advance this year."

The advancement has already begun on Capital Hill. Representative Barney Frank has long understood what the US people want, and he has introduced legislation that sets the groundwork for regulated and legalized Internet gambling.

Marijuana legalization was the most popular issue, according to the survey. As for online gambling, President Barack Obama has said that he plans to keep the Internet free for US residents, but he has not yet commented specifically on the Internet gambling issue.
