allena, Splitting the blinds is when no other players call and the 2 blinds decide to take their bets back and not play the hand... it can not happen online as the small blind has to fold or call the big blind.

It can also be called "chopping". If I am playing live action poker at a casino I may simply say "chop?" to the big blind.

The thing is that once you chop with a player one time it is good etiquette to do it every other time. It would be bad form to chop once, then try to raise the next time because you had a good hand. Keep in mind this only applies if no other players at the table call the blinds. It is acceptable however to chop with a player on one side of you and not on the other side... some players never chop and some will always want to do it.

Also chopping or splitting the blinds is not allowed in tournaments.
