•Mercy Corps is sending a team of emergency responders to assess damage, and seek to fulfill immediate needs of quake survivors. The agency aided families after earthquakes in Peru in 2007, China and Pakistan in 2008, and Indonesia last year. •Direct Relief is committing up to $1 million in aid for the response and is coordinating with its other in-country partners and colleague organizations. Their partners in Haiti include Partners in Health, St. Damien Children's Hospital, and the Visitation Hospital, which are particularly active in emergency response. Donate to Direct Relief online.
•Oxfam is rushing in teams from around the region to respond to the situation to provide clean water, shelter, sanitation and help people recover. Donate to Oxfam America online.
•The UN World Food Programme is gathering all available resources to deliver food to the recently homeless and impoverished in Haiti. Donate now to help bring food to those affected as quickly and efficiently as possible.
•The Baptist Haiti Mission is operating an 82-bed hospital that is "overflowing with injured." Donate online to BHM and 100% of your donation will go to the relief effort.
•International Medical Corps is assembling a team of first responders and resources to provide lifesaving medical care and other emergency services to survivors of the earthquake. Donate online.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti -- Haitian President René Préval issued an urgent appeal for his earthquake-shattered nation Wednesday, saying he had been stepping over dead bodies and hearing the cries of those trapped under the rubble of the national Parliament.
``Parliament has collapsed. The tax office has collapsed. Schools have collapsed. Hospitals have collapsed,'' he said. ``There are a lot of schools that have a lot of dead people in them.''

You're right, there is probably no space. Those poor people were just barely staying alive as it was, then this came along. People walking around like zombies, anticipating another big earthquake, sleeping outside, not enough medical supplies, food, water. Thank God there are groups getting together to get over there. Word has it that there may actually be upwards of 100,000 dead, fire departments like from Calfornia, are going over there with rescue and recovery dogs. God Bless those who help these people!

TXsusie, Hi! The list in post #1 is from the Huffington post (the internet newspaper) and all are trusted sites. We had this up since yesterday morning. Beware emails asking for money.. go directly to one of the sites in post #1 or call one of the numbers. The list is to go DIRECTLY to the relief sites. If you are worried, call the red cross or UNICEF... just know that the red cross is famous for high "admin" costs, that's why I picked Doctors without Borders.
I would trust the well known sites (like red cross, UNICEF, Doctors without Borders) over donating to a local news organization as you know the money goes DIRECTLY to the site, without any "admin" fees from some "news" organization or possible employee theft, or whatever.
I donated to doctors without borders over the net with no problem, but you can also call: toll-free number at 1-888-392-0392
24 hours a day, 7 days a week

CoraBets, 1st: they are not charging donators, so don't be scared to donate.
2nd: How very nice of them.  They charge all merchants for every transaction, so at least they came to their senses. They should NEVER charge these fees to relief organizations. They should be donating huge sums also!
