Okay here goes!
First we recycle everything that we can.
Examples:
Recycle Aluminum Cans (Grandpa & Grandkids project)
Empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls-saved for preschool projects or to wrap extension cords around.
Recycle Plastic Containers
Recycle Newspapers
We installed a programmable theromostat: This way the hours we are gone we can adjust it up or down for the season and then it will automatically adjust back to our programmed settings shortly before we plan to be home.
(Why heat or cool a house that no one is there?)
Lights get turned off when you leave a room (Grandkids get a deduction from their allowances if they leave a light on when they leave-didn't take long for them to start to remember)
I use the plastic grocery bags to line my wastebaskets.
I co-chair a garage sale semi-annually for our church. Members bring their unwanted items we sort and arrange them. Takes a week of my life each time but it brings in $20,000.00 a year for our church and gives people a place to put their items they no longer want or need!
During peak usuage times I make sure I do not do laundry or baking!
We live in a very small community, so for shopping purposes we have to drive 25 to 50 miles each way depending where we go-used to be I would go for just a few things-NOW with the gas prices I wait until I have a big list!
I could go on and on but I think this gives you the picture!

Great contest idea Idea TDTAT. It is great to see what everyone is doing to help our planet!! Gives us all NEW ideas. Smile 041

Arrow Park your SUV and take the bus (even twice a week - I started this months ago and I have shaved $35 off of my fuel bill each month)
Arrow New flourescent bulbs
Arrow DO NOT BUY BOTTLED WATER - it takes a ton of fossil fuels to produce these pollutents and they NEVER desintergrate
Arrow Drive 5mph slower - you'll get (on average) 1 mile more per gallon on freeway - hey - its somethin'
Arrow Just a few simple and easy-to-due tips.

I also re-use the plastic margarine, cottage cheese, and milk containers, also, to keep cords(like short extension cords) neat and tidy, save your empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls, and stuff the cords inside of the tubes. I have also stored computer cords that I'm not using inside of the tubes, it really helps because when I am looking for a cord, I have the tubes labeled and it saves me the frustration of trying to search for that specific cord.

ACTUALLY MY HUSBAND WON'T LET ME KILL MY EX, HE HAS MORE PATIENTS THAN I DO.
THERE ARE WEB SITES YOU CAN GO TO THAT TELL YOU HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN SHAMPOOS, CREAM RINSE, ALSO LAUNDRY DETERGENT(OH SO MANY PHOSPHATES!)AND FABRIC SOFTNERS. THEY SAY THAT THE ONES ON THE MARKET ARE REALLY STUFFED FULL OF CHEMICALS AND ARE REALLY BAD FOR YOU. I KNOW THEY ARE BAD FOR OUR AQUIFIR, WHERE WE ALL GET OUR WATER. ALL THOSE GREAT BIG PLASTIC CONTAINORS FILLING UP THE LANDFILLS.
I NOTICED SOME OF YOU MENTIONING REFILLING WATER BOTTLES. NOT REALLY A GOOD IDEA, THEY BEGIN TO GROW BACTERIA THE MIN. YOU OPEN THE BOTTLE THE FIRST TIME. WHEN YOU REFILL THEM YOU ARE DRINKING A CERTAIN AMMOUNT OF BACTERIA, WETHER YOU WASH THEM IN A DISH WASHER OR NOT. (I USED TO WORK IN THE WATER INDUSTRY SELLING EQUIPMENT TO CLEAN UP YOUR WATER, WE REALLY NEED THAT HERE IN FLORIDA WHERE WE HAVE THE MOST CONTAMINATED AQUIFIR IN THE NATION)

silly one but it is convient, pepsi and coke have come out with these miniature plastic bottles of soda. less than 16 oz. I save these to use for little water bottles for the kids' lunch bags. Sometimes I freeze the bottles so they stay cold allday. I guess you could use these as travel size liquor holders as well... LOL... the next size up from airline liquor bottles..LOL
