Best of luck to everyone!!! I'm so glad the weekend is over and that these boys are going home tonight, my daughter is out for MLK day tomorrow but she can be self-reliant, but mostly she's just lazy so she'll be fine if I lock myself in my room all day

Great to read all the encouraging words and success stories about quitting smoking! This past weekend was difficult because I had a few drinks with friends, and that's when the cravings REALLY kick in. (drinking without smoking felt really weird!) Like some of you, I only smoked a pack every 2-3 days...but from the age of 15 to now 43. (Quit 3 other times, while pregnant 9 months, and two other times for 4 months. Everyone would say "Oh, you don't smoke that much, it should be easy to quit." Not so much. Almost gave in this weekend to have "just one".

Been having dreams that I smoked, then wake up and realize I didn't. So far, much more energy/better overall feeling. Just these damn cravings. But they pass, come and go. Good luck to everyone who is quitting or has quit. You are inspiring!

One more thing that helped me finally quit smoking was that I didn't tell anyone I was quitting. It really made me feel a lot less pressure because I didn't have family and friends asking me how I was doing everyday.

I used the nicotine lozenges to quit but the problem with that is eventually you have to quit using them too, so it's like going through all the crap twice.

I agree TDTAT, having to get off the nicotine aids is not easy. I tried to get off them as quick as possible, because I knew as long as I was taking them, I would still have strong cravings. I also had to give up coffee and alcohol for a while, just so that the caffeine didn't trigger cravings, and the alcohol didn't lower my resistance. It is truly amazing how many reasons you can come up with for having "just one". And I just realized, I have been smoke-free for 9 years now, not 8. Gooooo me!!!

I haven't completely quit smoking yet, but I did quit drinking about 29 years ago. It was extremely difficult...I know all about cravings and thinking that just one wouldn't hurt. The main thing that got me through it was to live one day at a time, or one hour, when necessary. I know it sounds simple; I also know it is not at all easy. I know you have probably heard all of this before but I just wanted to share. If I had not learned to live that way, I would not have made it.

You all are great! I feel like maybe I'm going off-topic when I talk about smoking/quitting, should I be posting somewhere else? Then again, we are talking about New Year's resolutions, right? gjr1961, I think giving up the drinking would help A LOT with the cravings, but boy do I enjoy those drinkies on weekends!! lol
