I am so impressed. What an honorable and caring thing to do. I really really respect you, Tawnia. And Irishgilly, I applaud you, too.

Thanks Tawnia.

I paid the ultimate price for allowing gambling to rule my life. Its easier to step away from it than one might think - and get help if needed.

Yes I still gamble - only online and only when I can afford to. $10 and $20 deposits a few times a month - enough to get freebies from those few great casinos out there.

I join in on all the contests I can and even win one once in a while and even play "fun" money when I am realllly desperate.

Good luck everyone and "healthy" gamblin.

Rae

I have read through these post a couple times now, and felt compelled to post too. I used to gamble pretty heavy at the land based casinos close to my home. I got started on my 21 birthday, when my parents took me the first time. I won 4 jackpots that night alone, needless to say I was hooked. I started gambling every penny of my money, spending every hour I wasn't working, hardly sleeping, and didn't care about anything but getting my next paycheck. I since have changed my ways. I now have a 2 year old daughter, and since she was born I hardly have time to get out to the casinos. I quit work to stay home and raise her, and only go out about once a month now, cause I don't like leaving her. She has changed my life. I still like to gamble online, but once in awhile, like now I feel like it might be getting out of control. I lost over $1000 last month alone, now this might not sound like a lot to most people, but to me, this is huge. Considering I don't even have a job, my fiance, who just happens to be a pitboss at a local casino is the one making the money I am losing. He is understanding, and tries to be supportive, but I know that he too thinks I need to set a better budget. I am thinking about closing my casino accounts, I don't want this to get out of control. I read on Slotocash about them helping to set a budget for you, has anyone had any experience with this? I would appreciate any input. Thanks everyone for your stories, and understanding.

mistye81, Hello! You can get any casino to set a limit.
Tell Sloto'Cash to block you after $25 a month or whatever..
or they can close your accounts entirely. It would probably be easiest
for you to set all your accounts to fun play only or get rid of them all.

Go to live chat or email and tell them what you want.

Uninstalling the casinos may help. I would hate to loose you as a member,
but I can block your ip addy to this site as well.

You could send me a private message for added support or questions
or to get your accounts blocked.

Family is more important than gambling. Smile

Thanks TDTAT, I don't really want to close my accounts, I just need to set a limit and stick to it. I think that if Slotocash could block me after $200 a month, that would be fine. I don't really get to do anything anymore, so for me to have to option of sitting at home with my daughter and being able to gamble a little online has been great. I just need to have better control of my spending, and the thing is I don't realize how much I am spending til afterwards. I don't want to be blocked from your site, This site is the greatest, Its where I spend my time, when I am not gambling. I will email Slotocash and see if they will help me set a limit. Thanks again TDTAT.

It was a long time ago that I put my post in this room. I haven't been back since then. I just came in today and re-read all of the posts. It was lovely to read what many of you had written about my post. I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
I also want to reiterate what I said when I entered my post.
There is much help out there for anyone who is experiencing problems with gambling. Do not let this ruin your life, do not wait till someone has to pick you up off the floor and dust you off- get help now! Help is everywhere. I have noticed that many of the casino's web pages provide a number for anyone to call for help.
Most of us gamble for entertainment. A few of us go further, and that is where the problems begin.
If your gambling has become desperate- if it is all you can think of, the next bet you will place- if you live for your next pay check so that you can gamble again. If you are spending the rent money, the mortgage money, the grocery money, your childrens savings, you have a problem.
Don't kid yourself into believing other wise. My sister actually went to my other sisters and said she thought they were gambling too much!! This was her way of not faceing up to her own problems. Don't kid yourself- this will only make the problem worse!
There is no shame in admitting that your gambling is out of controll. Gambling is an addiction just like alcholism, or any other disease. If you had parkinsons disease you would not feel ashamed of yourself- you would think "I have a disease" Well a gambling addiction is the very same thing.
Many people feel ashamed of developing a gambling addiction. You think it makes you weak, and self indulgent. Well ask yourselves- Does Parkinsons disease make you weak and self indulgent? Does cystic fibrosis make you weak and self indulgent? How about chronic fatigue syndrome? Fibromyalgia? Alcoholism? Having been born blind? Heart disease? You should be answering no! to all of those diseases. Well a gambling addiction is the same. No shame, not self indulgent, not a weakling. Because it is a disease!
I bring this subject up again today because we are in a resession here in America, and many other countries all over the world. It is at times like this unfortunatly, that people gamble heavier, and what was once a pass time can develope into a full blown disease.
So I am asking you today to examin your gameing HONESTLY! Admit you have a problem if you find it is so. Tell someone- your pastor, a friend, a sibling. Or if it would be easier for you to seek help outside of your "comfort circle" then do so! Call a hospital that is not in your area, and ask to speak with someone who can help you with this disease.Just don't sit back and do nothing- and be honest with yourselves, don't lie to yourself, or somewhere down the road, you may end up like my sister. My sister kept her addiction to herself. The only weakness she displayed was being unable to admit to herself that she had a problem, being unable to bring her self to ask for help. She denied her family and loved ones the chance to help her, she chose to believe that we would not understand, or that we would misjudge her condition. I still struggle with forgiving her for judging us and unfairly finding us guilty without the benifit of a trial.
You will never have a better day, a better time, a better situation then you have right now. So go for it!

katiedeen, if you're new at this, what we all are saying is to take it slow and don't get addicted. This should be for fun don't let it take over your life because it can do it quick. I too have slowed down with help and it's not easy. I have spent over $20,000 this year and nothing to show for it. Is it worth it? NO, I could have had a new car! I'll be playing for fun now. Don't let it take over you! (Ok, now I'm out of the closet!) Laughing
